Unfortunately, there are many Digital marketing company sites that work in aggregating ratings and reviews, taking the power of an individual or company in protecting their reputation away from them. Allegations abound from the popular review sites that are meant to report rip-offs and which are now being alleged to trade payment for posting negative reviews or removal of bad ones.

There would not have been any issue if these sites allowed anyone to post reviews of individuals and businesses. However, some of these sites are alleged to have filtered out the positive reviews and instead asked these businesses to cough out money in exchange for money to post positive reviews from the website. In addition to being unfair, this practice leaves a business powerless. It is complete blackmail to force a business to pay for adding positive review or removing negative reviews.

From the business’s perspective, the practice of paying a site to combat negative reviews by allowing the site to solicit or produce positive reviews result is biased information. Although, every business should seek good and bad reviews and respond to each of them accordingly, but in reality, most business owners only support positive feedback while sweeping the negative ones under the carpet. Still, the practice of forcing businesses to pay for positive reviews is simply blackmail.

Is There A Solution?
To get over the quandary, there are certain things that should be kept in mind.
Any review site should work to provide site visitors with organically posted reviews of listed businesses, both positive and negative without any solicitation from any interested party. For businesses to make use of review sites, it is necessary to:
Make customers post ratings or reviews honestly without any solicitation for positive reviews.

The customer should not be given a discount or incentive for posting ratings or reviews. If any business is found to solicit only positive reviews or is found to provide incentive to people in posting reviews, the reviews thus posted during the time-frame of solicitation or encouragement should be removed and the ability of the business to manage the content should be suspended temporarily.

For repeat violations of policies, the businesses will lose the management ability of brand page permanently while losing access to brand page analytic or to receive premium benefits or advertising partner relationships with the company.
